John Mayer Makes Me Happy

If you're going to see a John Mayer concert in your life, which, if you even like him just a little, I think you should, you should see him in Boston. John Mayer is amazing live and he has ties to Boston (he wrote much of his first album in Boston). He gives us a special concert every time he comes. I know this because I saw him in Boston last night and it was dramatically different and better concert than I saw in Syracuse, even better than in Mansfield, 45 minutes south. He's one of the few musicians that seem to realize that Mansfield is NOT Boston.

He prefaced certain older songs with "I wrote this at 150 Mass Ave," a place I now must visit and photograph. He also told us that he wants to live here again someday and to keep an eye out for him (I'll believe it when I see it). He was so good live. So, so, so good.

His encore was incredible. He did an amazing acoustic medley of some of his really really old songs, the likes that have only been recorded on live albums like "Any Given Thursday" or "Inside Wants Out." He also did an incredibly sexy acoustic version of "Comfortable," my all time favorite John Mayer song. I've never seen him do it live and me and Jen freaked out. We were so excited.

We were both disappointed that John didn't play "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room," though I did see him perform it in Syracuse. Ben Folds began the show and he was good, but I think I'll have to see him where he's the headliner because he didn't really do his "thing." He didn't interact or talk to the crowd much and he didn't play two of my favorite songs, "Losing Lisa" and "Rockin' the Suburbs." Jen and I were shocked. All in all, we had an AMAZING time. We got to see an amazing show, we stopped by McGann's earlier in the night and said hi to my brother and we had a great time.

On tap for this weekend: Amy's birthday extravaganza in Portland. I'm excited to see her and Willa and have some good ole Syracuse fun... in Maine.

It's Late... I Should be Sleeping

I'm being emo again tonight. Yay for me. I'm undecided about my new status as unemployed. Hmmm. I should just sleep, especially since I have a headache... maybe in a little bit...

On the one hand, I didn't really like my job... at all. But I did like the money. It's too late now. Whatever. In a month I'll be starting school and moving to Boston and meeting new people, all that fun stuff. And, while another $1000 would have been nice... I'll cope without it. It sucks that I didn't get to really say bye to the people I did like at work, but... I can't dwell, at least now I can sleep in, read and do nothing until my life completely changes. It's like I'll have a real summer break for the first time since before high school, even if it is only for a few weeks.

John Mayer on Tuesday!!!! I cannot wait. Also, my hair is really short and I got tickets to see Maroon 5 in October with Jen Coleman and Amy Mac. Also, I think I might do "poker night" with Jenn since my Friday nights have recently opened up. But, I do have to conserve money since I no longer have a source of income.

Things on the "TO DO" list:

~clean/organize my room (it's getting ridiculous in here)
~do research on student loans
~stop playing retarded computer games and get back to reading
~make list/bring health form for doctor's appt on Thursday

Time Flies When You Hate Your Job...

Okay, so I don't hate it. I just don't like it/want to do it for more than the summer. I make good money and the people are okay, so I can't complain too much. Though, I am in a lot of pain. At the end of a shift, pretty much everything hurts: feet, ankles, shin splints, knees, wrists... I could go on. Waitressing is a lot of running around and constantly being on your feet, and then you have to pretend nothing is wrong and that you are super happy to do a million obnoxiously specific things for annoying people you don't even like. Sometimes this job makes me hate people. Especially those who don't tip well. FYI to anyone reading this. 15% tips are NOT acceptable. I make $2.63 an hour. When you tip me 15%, I make no money. Especially considering at the end of the night, %20 of my earnings go directly to the bartenders, busers, and foodrunners. As I see it, a %20 tip should be the minimum. Seriously, I have law school to pay for and most other waitresses have school and/or rent to pay for, some have kids, etc. Be nice to your waitress, tip her well. I work 6 days a week and upwards of 40 hours. If you cannot afford to tip %20, you shouldn't be going out to a restaurant with servers, go to McDonalds.

Now, let's forget work, let's recount some of the very exciting (not) things that have ocurred since my last entry a few weeks ago. Let's see...

I went to see The Fray in concert. They were really good live. I don't have the best knowledge of their music except for their last album, so at times I was a bit 'out of the loop' per se, but I had fun and they did my absolute favorite song of the album, "Heaven Forbid" which is actually sung by one of the guitarists, not the lead singer, who knew? Probably a lot of people knew that... but I didn't.

I saw a few movies since my last entry. Go see Knocked Up and Sicko!!! Both are very good. Knocked Up is very funny (but if you're one of those annoying people complaining that it's unrealistic that she wouldn't have gotten an abortion and blah blah blah, go kill yourself). And for Sicko, keep an open mind. Obviously all the facts are not presented in an unbiased manner, it is a Michael Moore film, but he does highlight some disturbing circumstances. I will admit, I cried a little in the movie.

I was unimpressed with Shrek 3 and Pirates 3, tho both were entertaining and I thought Evan Almighty was funny, but predictably bad, but I was expecting much worse, so I think the movie, in my mind, was a pleasant surprise. If you want to know what books I've been reading, go over to my mac web blog, there's a link on my facebook site.

My future plans include a haircut on the 10th (wicked exciting, right?), John Mayer on the 17th, Portland, Maine drunkeness for Amy's birthday the 20th and 21st, a possible day trip to NYC on the 31st and Las Vegas in August.
