I'm 23. When I get drunk, that tends to lead to inappropriate text messages and facebook wall posts. Nothing new there, I'm pretty sure everyone does it and people make the drunk dial too, but I try to avoid drunk conversations unless they're in person. When I was a freshman in college (a.k.a. the dark ages before facebook) people did all of the above minus facebook posting.
Before cell phones? Just the drunk dialing, maybe some drunk emailing. People still do all that stuff (otherwise google would not have come up with it's email breathalyzer system), I'm just setting up a story.
So
At Thanksgiving, my aunt brought up the fact that her son, my cousin, who is a freshman at Emerson college drunk texted her one night. Now, I would NEVER drunk text my mom, but hey, maybe that's just me. The story, as embarrassing for him as it might be, led to a great story from my grandfather:
Back in 1953 when he and my grandmother were "dating" ...I put that in quotes because they were in two different countries and were in communication via daily letters and only saw eachother in person 3 times tops before they married ... Anyway, when they were writing each other my grandfather admits to writing one letter while a bit "woozy" (his word). He mailed it off and in return, several days or a week later (I don't know the quality of the mail service back then) he got a letter back from my grandmother that said "Were you drunk when you wrote that?"
Now, it was really funny in person and probably significantly less funny in writing. But my point is 1) I can't believe people used to drunk write letters; 2) I can't believe people who drunkenly wrote letters still mailed them; 3) I want to see that letter; and 4) It being in French makes it take on a whole new level.
So, remember kids, when you drunk text, you're really just using a faster way to inform others of your inebriation than your grandparents, the pioneers, did way back when.
