The health care story is driving me crazy.
The HMO system sucks. Too many people are uninsured. We NEED a public option! I honestly think most Americans believe that to be true. Why don't the politicians get it? It seems like, in this instance, the GOP and the "Blue Dog" Democrats are listening to their pockets and not their constituents. They don't want to piss off the HMO lobby and risk losing their donations. It's making me ill.
It's news like this that make me hate politics. They are in a position to do real good for this country and create a system where everyone can have access to health care and they're blowing it. We cannot stand by and let politicians like Michelle Bachmann say the current plan is better because with so many people uninsured, it means lines at doctors are shorter. That's selfish and stupid. We're better than that.
With a public option, prices would go down for everyone. Don't believe the HMOs who say they won't be able to compete. HMOs are too big and too inefficient. A public option would force them to be better and that's what we need. Without a public option, the reform isn't reform.
I know my representatives are fighting for reform (go MA Dems!), are yours?
(The title of my post refers to the fact that the longer the Rep/Senator is in Congress, the less connected to the people he/she is and the more tied to lobbyists he/she is)
