Life Update

Finals are over. Vacation is over (too soon). Work has begun.

As for final exams -- not too bad. I tend to feel overwhelmed right before they begin and then once I sit down and start, am surprised at how much I actually retained over the quarter. It's my second quarter of exams and it still surprises me how quickly the quarters go. It seems just as you're getting into it, it's over. However, I definitely burnt out at the end. I was so ready for it to be over. If we had a semester system, I don't know what I'd do. I've been going to school non-stop since pre-school really... Only a year left and then I have to act like a grown-up!

Vacation was good. Went to Daytona with my parents (my dad joined us half-way through, actually) and my Aunt and Uncle. Kind of a dorky situation, but would you turn down a trip to Florida in which your travel and food and hotel and everything was paid for by someone other than you? Me neither. The last couple days were odd because it was the beginning of Bike Week. Needless to say (then I shouldn't have to say it but...), it got noisy. Weather was a bit cool and windy the first few days, but really nice the last few.

As for moving to D.C... the travel situation was awk. Hit a snow storm in Virginia and apparently Virginians cannot drive in snow. Made the trip a bit longer than the original estimation of 12 1/2 hours. My mom was losing it and it was horribly obnoxious. The woman is the worst back seat driver on the planet. I really don't know how my dad doesn't purposefully sideswipe a wall on the passenger side of the car. The nagging is constant and unnecessary. You'd think he's never driven a car before and if it wasn't for her, he'd drive off the road at an ungodly speed and kill everyone. The man travels by car as an essential part of his job without her, and he's still here! He doesn't need the comments and neither do I! I got soooo annoyed and I had my iPod on! So glad that's over. I love my mom, but she can be the most needy, nagging, and nasty person sometimes.

Living in the D.C. (Maryland) area is nice so far. It's only been a couple days, but my commute is very easy, only 30 minutes on the train, plus a 15 minute walk to the station from the house. I'm living with family friends. It's an adjustment, living with "parents" again. They're my parent's friends and I don't know them very well, but they're really nice, and they won't let me pay rent and they cook me food (cupcakes!) so I can see this working out very well. They have a son my age and he's really nice. We already went out last night because he was going to check out the Maryland basketball game and the bar just so happened to have the Syracuse game, so I was excited. Yay for Maryland dive bars having Syracuse basketball on.

My first week is almost over and I'm really excited for upcoming social events. There are some people I'm really excited to see and have not seen in way too long. First up, happy hour on Friday with Phoebe. That's right -- D.C. has a happy hour, unlike Massachusetts and it's stupid law against discounting alcohol (stupid Puritans).

Sleep now. Work in morning. Oh! And so far I like my job!
